Dressage Lessons for horse and rider, using the “Ride in Balance” method, supported by the Alexander Technique, created and taught by Jill Ray
Inspiring you to improve your ”way of going” for the comfort, health and success of you and your horse.
“Ride in Balance” lessons, based on classical principles have the added advantage of the incorporation of the principles and procedures of the Alexander Technique.
“Ride in Balance” lessons allow you and your horse to benefit from my combined skills of dressage rider and trainer, and Alexander Technique Teacher.
My experience of working with many and varied horses and their riders has taught me how profoundly the use of the riders’ body and mind effects the whole essence of the horse and his way of going -
His looseness, athleticism and correct use of his back.
His freedom of movement and balance.
His calmness, understanding, long term soundness and happiness.
“Ride in Balance” lessons gives you the key to complete control and harmony with your horse, creating a partnership that will lead you to success in your chosen discipline.
My methods, based on teaching “good use” to horse and rider, provide, “the missing pieces of the jigsaw,” that many conventional riding lessons don’t give you. This new knowledge, allows riders, many of whom, have been left stagnating and demoralized for years, to progress successfully, with their own riding skills and their horses future training.
Ride in Balance lessons are suitable for horse and rider partnerships at all levels. From the weekend rider who wants to enjoy a pleasant hack, to the dressage, event or show-jumping rider whose success depends on their ability to effectively balance and influence their horse.
My Teaching Ethos
Riding is the art of uniting and connecting with your horse, physically, mentally and spiritually in an attitude of soft, contolled energy and mutual co-operation and understanding.
My lessons are based on achieving this goal for every horse and rider that I work with.
My teaching of the Alexander Technique can teach you how to control and release your body into balance, letting go of the excess tension which conventional riding lessons often create.

A balanced rider is an effective rider and has a confident and happy athletic horse.
My teaching of the Alexander Technique provides the rider with a unique 'set of tools' which she/he can use to replace old, faulty habits with new correct practices.
My training programme - STEP BY STEP TRAINING - allows riders to move confidently from one logical step to the next so that progress for the horse and rider is sustained.
Lessons for both horse and rider and taught in an atmosphere of understanding, support and praise.
